Latvian took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from Italy on 1 January 2015 and handed the Presidency to Luxembourg after 30 June 2015. The Latvian Presidency started shortly after the beginning of a new institutional cycle when new members of the European Parliament and the European Commission began their work. During the six months, the Latvian Presidency made a considerable progress in the set priorities –Competitive Europe, Digital Europe and Engaged Europe.

Information on the achievements of the Latvian Presidency within the agenda of the Council of the European Union:

The Latvian Presidency organized three Council meetings in Brussels dealing with issues in the competence of the Ministry of Education and Science: EU Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council (EYCS) on 18-19 May 2015 [ārēja saite] and EU Competitiveness Council (COMPET) on 2‑3 March [ārēja saite] and 28-29 May 2015 [ārēja saite].

Several important issues were raised on the European level in all areas of competence of the Ministry of Education and Science in line with the tree Latvian Presidency priorities.
