OECD Launch Event: Low skills, high stakes: New insights from the Survey of Adult Skills

July 1st, 2026 10.00–13.00 CEST

Essential skills help shape opportunities in education, work and daily life. Yet too many adults struggle with low levels of literacy and numeracy. Why are those most in need of training least likely to access it? And how can education and training systems close these skills gaps?

In this launch event (10-11 CEST), a panel of experts will discuss the latest PIAAC Thematic Report, “Navigating life with low literacy and numeracy,” which draws on the 2023 Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC). The report highlights how widespread these challenges remain and explores what low skill levels mean for jobs, earnings, and overall well-being.

Then a national discussion (11:30-13:00 CEST) will focus on the Low-Skills Trap in Latvia: Causes, Consequences and Solutions.

Join us as we discuss how education and training systems can be more inclusive and effective for those who need them most. The event will be interpreted in English and Latvian.

The information will be published soon.
